THE OATH FOR COMPASSIONATE HELPERS
(LUPTON CENTRE)
- I will never do for others what they have the capacity to do for themselves.
- I will limit one-way giving to crises and seek always to find ways for legitimate exchange.
- I will seek ways to empower by hiring, lending, and investing and offer gifts as incentives to celebrate achievements.
- I will put the interests of those experiencing poverty above my own even when it means setting aside my own agenda or the agenda of my organization.
- I will listen carefully, even to not what is being said knowing that unspoken feelings may contain essential clues to healthy engagement
- And, above all, to the best of my ability,
- I WILL DO NO HARM
We use the Compass sustainability toolkit to identify community issues and develop an action plan based on the skills and talents of the group, taking into account the Oath for Compassionate Helpers.
Personal Growth and Team Building:
Nurturing personal growth and teamwork skills through challenging and enriching activities. We encourage students to step out of their comfort zones, build resilience, and develop strong bonds with their peers.

Sasak Culture
Lombok's Sasak culture is a fusion of ancient traditions and lively customs. The majority Sasak people have a distinct way of life, evident in their traditional weaving called "ikat," celebrated for its intricate patterns. These handwoven textiles are not just clothing but also symbols of Sasak identity. Beyond weaving, the Sasak culture is expressed through traditional dance and music, essential to religious ceremonies and community events. Visitors to Lombok get a firsthand experience of this rich culture, witnessing the authenticity and warmth of Sasak life through their arts and hospitality.
Our Partners
Partners of Lombok Eco Adventures
Bye-Bye Plastic Bags Lombok
The Lombok branch of the organisation started in Bali by Melati and Isabel Witjen, campaigning to end the use of single use plastic on the island. BBPB Lombok has coordinated the Kuta Tidy Schools Competition and is implementing a Komitmen initiative for local businesses that follow sustainable practices.
The Great Lombok Trail
This talented team runs hiking and camping trips along some of the most scenic and thrilling sections of the lower side of Mt Rinjani, including secluded natural swimming pools, lakes, incredible views and epic waterfalls.
Project Hiu
An amazing example of supporting ex shark fishermen in new, sustainable livelihoods. East Lombok has long been notorious for its shark finning industry but Project Hiu is committed to turning this industry around in Lombok and aspires to train the fishermen as eco tour guides - a win-win situation for the fishermen and the sharks. The epitome of a conservation project that truly covers all aspects of the Sustainability Compass.
Anak Alam Intercultural School
This little school with a big heart is the centre of several sustainability projects in South Lombok. Built around permaculture gardens, the school runs after school classes for local children to train them as Eco Heroes, teach English as well as sustainable practices in recycling, upcycling and reuse.
Gili Ecotrust
The main dive shops on Trawangan established the NGO Gili Eco Trust in 2002. The idea was to encourage a set donation per diver to be chiefly used to pay the SATGAS (reef patrol) employees, to place buoys to limit anchoring, to restore the reefs, and to organize many other environmental projects to protect and restore the natural environment around the islands whilst boosting sustainable tourism. Gili Eco Trust now also has initiatives in waste management, animal welfare and much more.
DNA Learning Zone
Extracurricular classes for children from one of the poorest areas in Lombok. DNA provides classes in Bahasa Indonesia, English and entrepreneurship. The students make their own products to sell from items they find on the beach.
Ninē Ninē
Nine Nine believes education and women’s empowerment are the keys to a better future. Through design and weaving, they aim to keep weaving skills alive in the region and honour the ancestral skills of women. At the Ninē Ninē workshop, women upcycle bendangs (the beautiful fabrics women wear everyday in Lombok) into eco friendly products and accessories.
